Fashion’s Night Out (FNO) is an unprecedented global initiative originally created in 2009 to celebrate fashion, restore consumer confidence, and boost the industry’s economy during the recession. On September 8, 2011, in response to overwhelming demand, Fashion’s Night Out will return to New York City and over 250 cities nationwide to highlight fashion and support retail with exciting events that include designer appearances, celebrity guests, fashion shows and musical performances. In the United States, the program is a collaboration between American Vogue, the Council of Fashion Designers of America, NYC & Company, and the City of New York.

The fashion community is all abuzz over recent accusations involving Fashion Designer Argelio Hidalgo. If you're not familiar with the Designer, the following is an excerpt from his Model Mayhem profile. I would direct you to his website, but it seems to be down at the moment...

"The House of Hidalgo, better known simply as Arcielago (pronunciation:ar - ciel- lago), is an American fashion and costume design label, part of the Hidalgo Group, which is owned by HIDALGO & Co, housing the Arcielago Label, The Swarovski Swimwear Collection, Arcielago Bridal Couture, and Hidalgo Jewelry.

HIDALGO & Co., was founded by Ramona R. Hidalgo in 1951, in 2005 Hidalgo Jewelry was added to the label, and in 2010 Arcielago was founded by Ramona R. Hidalgo's grandchild Miguelangel Argelio Hidalgo, making it the fashion branch of the label.

Miguelangel Argelio Hidalgo is a graduated from Parson's The New School of Design earning his degree in Fashion Design, and from The University of Texas at El Paso with a degree in BioChemistry.

There are several lines which make up The House Of Hidalgo. They are: Arcielago Couture, Arcielago Swarovski Swimwear Collection, Arcielago Onion Booty Jeans by VJA, Arcielago Bridal, Arcielago Costume Design, & Hidalgo Jewelery

Arcielago Couture & Swarovski Swimwear Collection, which contains high-end, often handmade apparel & Swimwear, is the House's main line. Traditionally, this is the only line presented on the runway which is shown during fashion week, but this has not been strictly the case in recent months. Couture dresses in this line may cost about $3,000 and Swimwear cost approximately $150.00.

Miguelangel Argelio Hidalgo directly heads this line and designs a vast amount of the items.

Since Arcielago acts as a private fashion and costume designer, it has many fans among well-known celebrities: such as Carrie Underwood, Britney Spears, Jaslene Gonzales, Jennifer Pena, The Kardashians, and recently added to the list Tyra Banks.

The Arcielago Swarovski Swimwear Collection is carried at DASH Boutique Miami.

Argelio is currently part of America's Next Top Model & Wicked The Musical's Costume Design Team.

Headquarters for the label are based out of Austin Texas.

You may be wondering, "Why did Gina have me read all of this?". Well, I was contacted recently by an unnamed source who was personally effected by what seems to be a series of fraudulent claims by the designer, Argelio Hidalgo.

First off, Argelio Hidalgo claims he designed the Gold bodysuit Britney Spears is wearing in her "Circus" video. However, research by the unnamed source shows otherwise. The following quote is taken from TheGoldenCloset.com where the garment was available for sale:

"The vintage garment has been used previously by assorted celebrities in numerous productions prior to Ms. Spears and is in good condition with some minor evidence of age as seen in the video."

Secondly, Argelio's listed business address in Austin seems to be a Parking Lot.

Third, Mr. Argelio Hidalgo claims to have designed the dress Carrie Underwood wore for her 2009 Grammy performance. The unnamed source contacted Carrie Underwood's personal stylist, Trish Townsend, who states that the dress is her design and not Argelio Hidalgo's.

Fourth, there have been claims that Argelio Hidalgo wrote fraudulent checks to fund a show in his hometown of El Paso, Texas.

Another claim involves the CFDA, whom Argelio Hidalgo listed as a sponsor for this year's San Antonio Fashion Week. To which the CFDA replied:

"The CFDA has absolutely nothing to do with a fashion week in San Antonio and we are not at all familiar with Mr. Hidalgo. We will be following up with him to remove mention of CFDA from his materials."

This is all speculation, however I could not confirm any of this myself. Argelio's facebook page has disappeared along with the business page and website with exception of the home page.

Further research shows there have been some nasty messages sent to the unnamed source by members of Argelio's team. Meow!

So what does this mean for the upcoming "The New Face of Arcielago Fashion Show" and Argelio's involvement with San Antonio Fashion Week? I'm not certain. Only time will tell.
I hope that this is all just one big misunderstanding.

"Next Look" Hair and Makeup Competition

FGI San Antonio is hosting the "Next Look," a hair and makeup competition on Monday June 20th, 2011 from 6:30-9:30 pm at Bjorns Audio Video. We are looking for the "look" that will be showcased during San Antonio Fashion Week's Gala in October. If you think you have what it takes to create the "Next Look," and you would like to compete for the chance to be Head Stylist and Makeup Artist for the Gala, email pictures of your best work, along with name, phone number, and email to intern@couturecottons.com no later than Saturday June 11, 2011. There will then be 30 of the best hair stylists and makeup artists chosen to comprise 30 teams that will compete the evening of the event. There will be a $40.00 fee for each person chosen to compete that evening. Each team will consist of a hair stylist, makeup artist and a model. Each team must coordinate hair and makeup looks the day of the event, and have the model ready to walk the runway. A panel of judges will then choose the best hair style and makeup look, and those wnners will serve as Creative Directors of Hair and Makeup for SA Fashion Week's 2011 Gala. The next 14 hair stylists and makeup artists that serve as "Runner-ups," of the competition will comprise the "official" Hair and Makeup Team for SA Fashion Week 2011.

Wilson Chan was born in Brooklyn, New York. He earned a BFA at The School of Visual Arts majoring in advertising. From 1998 - 2002, Chan worked as a graphic designer on national campaign ads for Nautica and visualized new marketing ideas for The Limited brands while simultaneously producing fashion show soundtracks for young designers like Peter Som.
In the summer of 2002, Chan was hired to produce the music for Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent. He has since continued to produce special events music and has contributed to establishing the in-store music concepts for Mr. Ford.
From 2003 - 2008, he was the design director of the bi-annual release of MAO MAGAZINE which celebrated fashion industry mavens and cult icons.
He continues to freelance as an art director while simultaneously producing music for fashion show and special events like the Night of Stars gala for Fashion Group International, which he served for five consecutive years as music director. MRWILSONDJ’s work has been featured in publications such as The New York Times, The Boston Globe and National Public Radio.

In anticipation of Earth Month this April and Earth Day, April 22nd, Aveda Institute is hosting CatWalk For Water, an eco-fashion show and benefit event, to raise money for local clean water efforts. All proceeds from Catwalk for Water will go to the Gulf Restoration Network (GRN) to solve water pollution problems in Gulf Coast communities and the Global Greengrants Fund.

Catwalk for Water will showcase designs from local designers and boutiques, for an evening’s catwalk benefit, presenting eco-fashions for men and women.

Participating boutiques and designers include Adelante, and local designers, Janet Jones, Ashel Patrel, Soraya Stringer and Gwynee Harris who are current students or Alumni of the International Academy of Design and Technology in San Antonio. The Aveda Institute San Antonio students will provide fabulous hair and makup, with photography by Constante Photo. Live Music by Billy Ray Sheppard.

Proceeds from this event will benefit the
Gulf Coast Restoration Network http://healthygulf.org and
Global Greengrants Fund www.greengrants.org.

Dior's Master Crafters

John Galliano was absent from the Christian Dior Fall 2011 fashion show, held today at the Rodin Museum in Paris. The collection is the designer's last for the iconic French label, after his recent public, anti-semitic rant and subsequent dismissal.

But the show did go on--with a couple of non-traditional twists. Opening the show was Dior CEO, Sidney Toledano, who addressed the audience in French. According to the New York Times' Cathy Horyn, he read solemnly from a written statement.

"Since its founding by Monsieur Dior, the House of Christian Dior has lived an extraordinary and wonderful story and has had the honor of embodying France's image, and its values, all around the world," he said.

"What has happened over the last week has been a terrible and wrenching ordeal to us all. It has been deeply painful to see the Dior name associated with the disgraceful statements attributed to its designer, however brilliant he may be. Such statements are intolerable because of our collective duty to never forget the Holocaust and its victims, and because of the respect for human dignity that is owed to each person and to all peoples. These statements have deeply shocked and saddened all at Dior who give body and soul to their work, and it is particularly painful that they came from someone so admired for his remarkable creative talent."

At the show's close, instead of the flamboyant Galliano's usual strut down the runway, the atelier's team of master crafters, seamstresses, pattern makers, and the like, crowded onto the runway in their white lab coats. The craftspeople had finished the collection in the frenetic last week before the show without their former leader.

UIW's 2011 Cutting Edge Fiesta Fashion Show

The University of the Incarnate Word will hold the 2011 Cutting Edge Fiesta Fashion Show, an official Fiesta® event, on Monday, April 11 at the Grand Hyatt Ballroom in downtown San Antonio. The perennially sold-out show will begin with the runway event at 11:30 a.m. and lunch will immediately follow.

Tables of 10 are available for $1,500 (premier runway seating), $1,000 (second row), $750 (third and fourth row), and individual seats may be purchased for $75 each. For ticket information, call 210-829-6072; a ticket order form may also be downloaded here.

The show features student designers from the UIW Fashion Design program. Student designers plan and produce their collection while enrolled in the fashion design capstone courses during their senior year. Each designer is responsible for implementing all phases of the collection, which included sketching the idea, creating the pattern, and constructing the garment. The individual collection of six garments may focus on a particular season, color, or market segment.

Sneaker Palooza Volume 2 is set for March 13, 2011. Sneaker Palooza is a street-culture event that showcases San Antonio’s up and coming artists (musicians, art, graffiti artist, b-boys and girls, local fashion designers, and sneaker enthusiasts). The goal of the event is to offer a platform for our community to express their artistic talents and lift that negative connotation that surrounds street-culture. The event will feature performances by some of san Antonio’s best talent-AJ Hernz, Question, Bed Stuy Gab, Bugsy, Rob Tyson, Diego Bernal and Slic Vic. TOM FORD RETURNS S/S 2011

Tom Ford has returned. Did you miss him? Last September rumors were abuzz as he hosted an intimate cocktail party/fashion show at his menswear store on Madison Avenue. Each sultry design was especially created with the model in mind. Famous friends such as Julianne Moore, Lisa Eisner, Rita Wilson, Marisa Berenson, Daphne Guinness, Natalia Vodianova, Liya Kebede, Daria Werbowy, Amber Valleta, Beyonce and MORE sashayed down the runway while Ford controlled every detail from the music to introducing each famous lady by name and describing each creation in detail. The show was somewhat a flashback to Parisian couture shows from the 1940's. Ford's future creations will be reserved for members of the magazine press only, in one-on-one appointments. The sexy designer doesn't want images of details of his collection made public until the garments are produced and en route to the stores. Personally I find his return to be perfect timing. With '70s inspirations hitting the runways it would only make sense that this lover of the '70s decade would return.

The Official Little Black Dress Contest:

Your creation will be part of a special feature for
“Couture on a Budget” Fashion Week Show.

Designers must construct the Perfect LBD.
The dress should be flattering to the average womans body.
It needs to be size 8 or above.
The cost of the dress must be under $200.00.
The dress will be judged in part by audience participation.
The final vote will be by a panel of celebrity judges.
The dress will be featured on LBD web site for people to purchase.

Designers must furnish their own model

CELEBRANDO ESTILO FASHION SHOW

The International Academy of Design and Technology will be hosting an art and fashion show to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. The art and fashion to be showcased is inspired by the Hispanic culture and will feature a tribute to singing sensation and fashion icon Selena Quintanilla-Perez, as she remains very influential in the Hispanic culture.

The show will be hosted by Delisi Araceli Duarte, Miss Latina World 2009, and proceeds from the show will benefit the Selena Foundation and IADT's Career Education Scholarship Fund. Tickets can be purchased for $20 by calling 530-9449 or can be purchased at the door for $30. Food and beverages will be provided by Ajuua; cocktail and formal attire only please.

Hello my vintageous peeps! I know its been a while... BUT...

I have scored an awesome find and am gracious enough to share it with you! Well...the other day, while I was interning, I racked up some babysitting hours (we're talkin BABY-little baby) and walked out of there four hours later, $50 bucks richer. SO like any gal would do I made a little, small, completely out of the way detour to 628 South Saint Marys Street to go scope out Vintage House. Right as I got over the fact that I had to pay for parking and started walking toward the store, I spotted a rack of colorful dresses blowing in the wind outside the shop. I started to increase my walking speed. I was now "power walking", as Juan would say, straight to the flowing garments. Once I was in arms reach of the metal rack, that was suddenly my favorite friend of that moment, I swept through with all hopes high ready to fall in lust...then it hit me. A red, plaid, circa 1954, tea length dress that was just my size. It was fate. PLUS it was First Friday so it was dubbed half off (SHWEET). Right after I grabbed it off the line, I walked inside, and made a B line to the dressing room in the corner. I slipped it on, it fit like a glove, and $12 later...she was mine. Thus, the underlined meaning of my very interesting story is, shop vintage and SHOP LOCAL! dress independently!

Okay. I don't know about you, but everything about this little number is beyond belief. I LOVE IT. The Bruce Arnold Limited yellow sequin ruffle-panels, trimmed in pale yellow beaded fringe, makes you want to just stare and run your hands through its little tassels all day... Although, you definitely could make your dream a reality, for only a mere seven hundred dollars. But I'd rather dream.

CRISIS! FATHER'S DAY GIFT!?!

As we sit back and ponder our fathers. Grandfathers. Great Grandfathers. Even Uncles.. We think of all the amazing memories and experiences that we have gained from those life-changing men that mean such an abundance to us, and who we are today.

So, when we think of a mere gift that could some how possibly sum up all of our feelings, and emotions, and our soul.. We think of nothing other than... a necktie.

YES. Men are difficult to shop for. HOWEVER, While searching for an awesome/cheesy-as-usual Father's day gift, I stumbled upon some pretty dag-on amazing vintage neckties. Now I KNOW, neckties, how "original", but these are different, colorful, and I would definitely wear them if I were a boy. Or a girl who liked to wear neckties.

I stumbled upon the master mind website, www.ties2pillows.com where they had a button that totally shot you into 20 different pages of just vintage, slim, and skinny neckties! CHECK EM OUT!

Your father will love it so much he might actually wear this one. ;)
